about

Rasheed Jamal has consistently released projects since 2012’s My Beautiful Ugly. His body of work, including 2015’s SANKOFA and 2017’s INDIGO CHILD, has drawn comparisons to some of the greatest rap musicians of all time.

As the lead single for his upcoming album, 22 GRAMS (iAMTHATiAM) scheduled for release on May 22, 2020, the visual Urban Decay Pt. II creates an atmosphere that many viewers and listeners may currently find themselves now especially following the Covid-19 pandemic. Questioning religion. Questioning society. Questioning the internet and the newfound “anything for likes and views” mentality that we find more and more prevalent. When asked to comment Rasheed says, “I enjoy the creative freedom that the information age has enabled us to have, but I sometimes wonder if the real world is decaying due to the fact that we spend so much time maintaining our image online. It feels like we are getting back to a place where we are letting big companies disguised as small companies determine what’s “real” and what’s not. When the truth is that the mainstream’s power source is the underground, so we have to step up and recognize our strengths as well as our weaknesses.”
